The tour departs New Plymouth at 9am with first stop in the centre of Stratford where there is an opportunity to browse the Percy Thomson Art Gallery, get a taste of confectionery making at Devon Sweets and view the 10am performance of the only functional Glockenspiel in New Zealand.
The tour departs Stratford at 10.15am arriving at Lavender Lane (lavender farm/café) a few minutes later for morning tea. Here you can purchase lavender farm products, gifts, and amazing wood turned products.
The tour then heads into the outback to the Republic of Whangamomona where lunch will be served at the famous Whangamomona Hotel, after which we may partake in a gumboot throwing competition.
From Whangamomona it is on to Kaieto Café perched on the very top of the Tahora Saddle, a spectacular vantage point for panoramic views of the central North Island mountains and surrounding valleys and hill country. Two Maori Pa sites are visible on prominent hilltops to the west and east. Here we will collect our hamper to be enjoyed later in the day.
Moving on from the Tahora saddle the coach will wind down into the Tangarakau Gorge where we stop to take in the ambience of the final resting place of Joshua Morgan a surveyor whose gravesite is a memorial to those who endured the hardships faced while paving the way for road and rail though this difficult terrain.
It is then onto the spectacular Mt Damper Falls (85m). A walk of 20 minutes will bring us to a platform to view the highest fall in the North Island followed by a welcome break for afternoon tea. Travel to White Cliffs Brewery at Urenui for a brewery tour and time to relax over a beer or two with food to match in the late afternoon before proceeding to New Plymouth and Stratford
