Travel Club Masterton

August / September 2006

Hello Travellers. I trust that you all got through the recent deluge in one piece, I know that we have a lot of members in Martinborough which was isolated by floodwaters for a couple of days and several members who live in Timms Place in Masterton, where sanitary conditions took a turn for the worse. These were just some of the “hotspots” - there was flooding over much of the region, and I’m sure that most of us were affected in some way, so I hope for all of you folk that life has returned somewhat to normal.

I hope that you are keeping warm and well and not letting those wily winter germs catch you out. As always, indoor venues are a must at this time of year and we have come up with some wintry options to keep you amused.

regards, Ali Cockeram

Coming Day Trips

Flax, Food & Films
We were really disappointed at having to cancel this outing due to earthquake strengthening work commencing on the MAVtech building in Foxton (shame they couldn’t have told us about this earlier!!) As yet they are unable to give us a date of re-opening, but we will be rescheduling this tour as soon as we can, and will keep you informed.

Constable’s Creations
Tuesday 15 August

John Constable was one of the great English landscape painters, and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see works by this remarkable artist. On exhibition at Te Papa are more than 100 drawings, watercolours, oil paintings and engravings, art that became the benchmark for landscape painters in 19th Century Europe.

Our coach will depart Tranzit Depot at 10.00am with our usual pick up points down the valley. We will stop off at the newly refurbished Westgate Centre in Lower Hutt, where you will have time to browse the glossy new shops and find yourself a bite of lunch (at your own expense). We then make our way to Te Papa to enjoy the exhibition, along with your choice of some of the fabulous permanent exhibitions. Your admission fee to the Constable exhibition is included in the cost of the outing.

Price: $36.00
Bonus Points: 20

After lunch we make our way back to Woodville, to visit another interesting attraction, the Woodville Organ Museum – home to a large collection of historic reed organs.
