Travel Club Wanganui

February / March 2006

Welcome back to another year with the Travel Club and all the best from the Tranzit Team for a happy and successful year. Wherever you were over the holidays I hope you and your families enjoyed yourselves and took time to recharge those batteries. We have been kept busy here in the Travel Centre but are still keeping a sharp eye out for lots of interesting new places to take you throughout this year and of course there will also be some of the old favourites that we visit annually. We are also planning some midweek day trips as well. Don’t forget to get in touch with me if there are any ideas that you have for a good day out or if you see shows or concerts advertised that you are interested in.
A lot of times these shows come on sale between newsletters so it is only if you call us that we know you are keen to go.
Grab a cold drink, find a comfy chair and have a read of what we have on offer over the next couple of months. I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards  Julie
Looking Back
Congratulations to all those members who won prizes at our Xmas party here at the depot before we went on the Xmas lights trip back in December. It was a fun night and I am sure you all had a great time.

We head to Waikanae Estuary Scenic Reserve this morning where first we meet our guide Mik Peryer, and enjoy morning tea at Mik and wife Moira’s house which provides stunning views over the Waikanae River and estuary. After morning tea we join Mik on an informative tour of the Reserve, which is home to a wide range of bird species such as Caspian Terns, spoonbills, herons and many more. Mik is very knowledgeable of the bird life within the estuary and has written 2 books on the subject.  (Bring comfy shoes, but the walking is not difficult).  Lunch today will be at the Reikorangi Pottery Cafe and Farm Park.  View the pottery, walk among the animals and enjoy the ideal setting by the river for your b.y.o picnic or purchase a delicious lunch at the Potters Kiln and Cafe. On our way home we will make a stop at the Celtic Organic Winery. Situated on the shores of Lake Horowhenua near Levin, this winery brings back the taste of yesteryear when wines were made of fruit and honey, unfiltered and organic.
