Travel Club Wellington

August / September 2006

Hello travel clubbers.
We have really been getting all the elements thrown at us this winter haven’t we!!  Officially the coldest June in 30 years – this really comes as no surprise, with July following hot on its heels as the wettest!!  What happened to good old fashioned clear frosty winter’s mornings?

So how about coming on an outing with us soon; meet up with your travel club friends and acquaintances and enjoying a tasty lunch while you’re at it – we find it’s a great solution for beating the winter woes.

regards   Andy

Upcoming Day Trips:

Southwards Car Museum
Wednesday 23 August

With these dark and cold mornings we leave a little later, departing from the depot at 9:30am and from the Railway Station at 9:50am. We head on up the coast stopping at The Lindale Centre with free time to stroll through the shops before sitting down to a hot lunch at the Lindale Farm Kitchen. Afterwards we hop back on the coach to travel 3 minutes up the road to the Southwards Car Museum. Wander through the museum at your own pace; browse around the gift shop or head on up to the newly refurbished café overlooking the museum for a hot cuppa and slice (not included in price). We hope to be back at the Railway Station by 4:30pm and on to the Depot by 5:00pm.

The Lindale Centre
Shops include Kapiti Cheese and Ice cream, The Honey Hive, Art Gallery, Antiques, Kapiti Candies, Kapiti Olives, Wood Turning Studio and Clothing Stores.

The Lindale Farm Kitchen
Your choice from a selection of hot dishes such as Macaroni Cheese, Lasagne or Pumpkin Soup followed by a hot cuppa and your choice of slice.

Southwards Car Museum
The founders and benefactors of the trust, Sir Len Southward and Lady Vera, began collecting cars in 1956. Over the years Sir Len Southwards’ fascination with vintage cars gradually became a full-time occupation. Assisted by Lady Vera Southward and sons Roy and John, he worked steadily at expanding and restoring the collection. After retiring from daily involvement in his business he devoted his time and energy to the museum where visitors could share his nostalgia for bygone motoring eras. Sadly Sir Len passed away on February 19th 2004, at the splendid age of 98, but his legacy remains for all of us to enjoy.

Shopping Basket
Wednesday 20 September

We depart the Depot at 8.30am this morning, picking up at the Railway Station at 8.50am heading on up to Palmerston North to visit the newly refurbished EziBuy Outlet Store. It was big before but now it’s huge!! The size of a small department store EziBuy has dedicated shopping areas for women and mens clothing, nightwear, footwear and homeware and gift lines. EziBuy operates as the largest mail-order business in Australasia and many of you are sure to already be regular customers via mail - so whether you receive their catalogues or not, now’s your chance to visit the newest and largest store of its kind in the region.  There’s even a café in-store so if you get thirsty shopping you can take a little time out for a cuppa. Afterwards we head off to the Palmerston North RSA for a roast lunch before travelling back to Levin where we visit the Silverdale Factory Store. Many of you will have heard the name and some may even have Silverdale knitwear at home, your chance to get the highest quality knitwear at bargain prices. Honestly prices have to be seen to be believed - one customer purchased a jersey for $40 and saw the exact same one in a shop in Wellington for $200.

We hope to be back in Wellington by 5.00pm.
