Day 2: Tuesday 19 October: Around Taupo
This morning we travel out to the hidden valley of Orakei Korako, to experience the majestic beauty this thermal area beholds. We cross the Waikato River by boat, to explore a world of gushing geysers, and some of the largest silica terraces in the world. There is time for lunch in Taupo (own choice and cost). This afternoon we will experience a cruise aboard the Ernest Kemp Steamboat on lovely Lake Taupo, taking in historical points of interest, as well as reminders of the lakes’ violent volcanic past as we view the cliffs that are remains of ancient crater walls. We also discover the remarkable Maori rock carvings, etched into a rock face.
Day 3: Wednesday 20 October: Taupo to Raglan
We leave Taupo behind today and travel through to the pretty historic town of Cambridge, where we stop to visit Cambridge Thoroughbred Lodge and learn about the noble horse through a unique “Horse Magic Show”. You will have time to enjoy a bite of lunch in Cambridge (own choice and cost), before we continue on to our destination today, Raglan. After exploring the sheltered harbour, and the coastline that attracts thousands of surfers to this area every year, we should also have time to browse the shops of this attractive seaside town.
